VESTIGE ART & LITERARY JOURNAL publishes submissions weekly on Tuesdays, typically alternating between flash and long-form writing and art features.
Short Stories < 5K words
Essays/Narrative Nonfiction < 5K words
Flash Fiction < 1K words
Flash Creative Nonfiction < 1K words
Art & Artist Features - Variable length
HONORARIUM
All selected contributors are compensated:
$100-200 for short stories and essays
$40-50 per flash piece
Price range depends on word-count
Honorarium sent via PayPal within one week of publication
VESTIGE was founded to preserve human-crafted writing and artwork and to mitigate the effects of AI by supporting authors and artists. We are committed to raising contributor honorariums as we grow our platform. You can help us grow by upgrading your subscription to paid.
SUBMISSIONS
VESTIGE showcases diverse voices, publishing one contributor piece per week, which means we curate selectively. Our top priority is sharing human voices who are cutting through the noise, unafraid to share fresh perspectives that engage instead of parrot common narratives.
Multiple submissions are not allowed. Please choose to only submit one story, essay, OR flash piece at a time. You can submit another piece immediately after hearing back from us.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed. However, please let us know via email if your work is accepted elsewhere, and we will pull your submission from our consideration.
At this time, previously published works are not accepted. However, you are welcome to submit self-published pieces from your own blog, Substack, etc.
Submissions are accepted through our SUBMISSION PORTAL (Goes live October 30)
Submissions are FREE. To help VESTIGE support artists, you can become a paid subscriber for as little as $7 a month, or request paid editorial feedback.
Response time is 3-4 months. Fast Response is available for $11, and enables our editor to respond within 4 weeks.
We nominate published work for the following: Pushcart Prize, Best American Short Stories, Best American Essays, Best Small Fictions, and Best of the Net.
EDITORIAL PROCESS
VESTIGE values both purity of artistic voice and collaboration. Only work that is complete and already carefully edited is selected. However, accepted pieces may receive collaborative suggestions for clarity, flow, or line editing.
RIGHTS
VESTIGE asks for first serial rights and the right to archive your piece on our website, from which we also plan to print an anthology. All rights revert to you upon publication. If your piece is reprinted elsewhere, we ask for acknowledgment as the original publisher.
